The list of Romanian products recognized at European level through the PDO, PGI and TSG quality schemes provides a clear picture of Romania’s current positioning within this system. Compiled by Paul Anghel, consumer protection specialist, it brings together the main certified products, as registered under the schemes managed by the European Commission.

In the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) category are included: “Topoloveni Plum Jam”, “Sibiu Salami”, “Smoked Carp from Țara Bârsei”, “Danube Smoked Shad”, “Sibiu Telemea Cheese”, “Pleșcoi Sausages”, “Săveni Kashkaval Cheese”, “Tulcea Pike Roe Salad”, “Pecica Bread”, “Dobrogea Pie”, “Turda Salt Products”, “Vâlcea Hatchet Sausages” and “Sturgeon Batog (Danube Delta)”.

In the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) category, Romania currently has “Ibănești Telemea Cheese”, a product for which all stages of production are carried out within the defined geographical area.

For Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSG), “Traditional Carp Roe Salad” and “Marinated Anchovy” are registered, products defined by recipe and traditional method, without strict geographical conditioning.

By comparison, according to official data from the European Commission, Italy exceeds 300 registered products, France and Spain each have over 200, while Greece and Portugal fall within the range of 100–150 certified products. The difference highlights varying levels of capitalization on these schemes within the single market.

Paul Anghel will be the next guest of the Meat.Milk. show on AGRO TV.
